EFF Patent Busting
In an fantastic display of their freedom motivated spirit the EFF is going after the removal of several patents that are just to broad and vague to be issued to any one entity. Most of these are not just broad but also in existence and widely used prior to the patent application, making the attempt to patent them a ridiculous idea that would stifle creativity. Check it out for yourself and join the Patent Busting.

Book Log will be changing
I am migrating the booklog to LibraryThing. I need to figure out how to get the ISBNs for over 1000 books automatically. Yet another chance to write a little something to make life easier.

Enrich the human experience
Envision all the controls and settings that you encounter during every waking day. Be they virtual (web, software, touchscreen), digital (microwave, dishwasher, washer, dryer) or analog (radios, etc...), all of these are an opportunity to improve the human experience. Imagine a different way of doing things. Everything you can imagine has the potential to touch all or much of humanity. Enriching the human experience for all of us and potentially furthering the human species.

Do not...

extisp.icio.us image mode - del.icio.us tags to Yahoo image searches
Looks like someones mind is in the gutter. Nakedness from tags such as "fun". See link in the links section for a live version of this function.

Light Thought
What you see is not what is but rather always what was. Just as you are blind to the future you are also blind to the present.

Too bad there is no line out.
This device can turn your thumb drive into an MP3 player with controls built into the device itself. If only it had a line out I could put together a 500GB USB drive along with an inverter and have my whole audiobook library available at all times. I dont like the idea of using the RF transmission since I already have a line in on my car stereo that I use for my iPod.

IE Hates iTunes!
Of course leave it to Microsoft to obliterate functionality and flexibility to spite the competition. For a long while now IE 6 and 7 have caused issues with downloading the iTunes application. I usually work around this with a download from Firefox instead but with the wonderful but malevolent Windows Vista installed, here is how it went.

I finished an audiobook and wanted to start one I had just received. I went to http://itunes.com for...

Finished the Dark Tower Series
I have to say that after 7 books, this was well worth the time to listen to it. I finished all the books in audio and that turned out to be the best way to fit into my schedule. I wont deal with the questions about the literary value of Stephen Kings writing because it is a pointless debate. I loved the series and it has given me an appreciation for the writer. My respect has grown after consuming as many of his works as I now have. You wouldn't understand it unless you read most or all of them....

Cool Things
I figured out last night how to make the photoalbum at least 20x faster. This is done through the extraction (not as hard as it sounds) of the EXIF thumbnail embedded within an image taken with a common digital camera. This is good for me because I no longer need to worry about the creation of thumbs and their storage or the server load that that creates. What I need to do now is to fix the rotation functions (no longer used due to the destruction of all EXIF data on rotation) so that the EXIF data...

Script Engine Bug
I had first thought that it would be a good idea to move a topic to the top of the list if it was update, but the problem is that it may be outdated information that was only updated to correct spelling or something of that nature...

I now realize that I need to move the comments into a separate record so that the chronology can be maintained.

As a side note: I really need to get FTP access or web based access to the management ports of our varying sites... Perhaps I...

Wonderings Wanderings
I have often wondered at my own focus on material goods and technologies bleeding edge. Is it that I feel compelled to try to have things before the other kids on the block? Probably that is the reason or cause if you prefer, but could it be that I yearn for the best that we as a species have to offer and that technology is the closest thing to the bleeding edge of human understanding. I do understand that I am decades behind the edge itself but I also understand that there is no sure access to that...

Bleak Species
We are an insignificant, self-important, barbaric, incompetent, self-indulgent species that lacks any vision or stability. As we plod through the muck that we create we wonder why "others" cannot see the rightness of our path, when we cannot see the path itself.

Thanks for your patience
I am stil working on the Mozilla compatability of the site and I thank everyone that uses Mozilla/Firefox/Phoenix for waiting until I fix the issues with the browser. There is just something funky about the way gecko (mozilla source engine) handles certain CSS values as opposed to how it should based on the standard.

Is there value in linking to news from a blog?
I read a few blogs and run one or two myself and have often wondered at the value or virtue of linking to and listing news from news sites. Is there a point to it? Does anyone find a value in this activity? I suppose it gives insight into the mind and interests of the blogger but I have a hard time swallowing it as anything more than possibly providing less comp-u-literate friends and family with a path to information that they may or may not normally be exposed to. Have I just answered my own question?...

I felt that I could no longer avoid it so...
I added a page called myToyz. The sole purpose of this page is to broaden my thinking about my current interests and possibly be a sounding board for the odd ideas that I come up with and maybe those of you with geek-inclinations can assist me with ideas on how to improve my projects and better "hack my gear"...

I would like to pose a question...
Are there merits equal to that of reading books by experiencing them through audio? Is this a diminished method (aside from the lesser involvement of the imagination) of experiencing a work, and is the involvment of the imagination the only true value of a work?

New Site Page - bookLog
I intend to maintain a log of the writings that I have experienced within the past year (at the time of each post) for each author. I think it will help with reflection on those influences that have helped to shape my thinking as well as provide a base for venturing out and discovering new authors and writings.

Check it out...

Everything is the answer. There is still everything to be said over and over... Perhaps anything that has not yet been taken seriously will be someday and in preparation the visionaries still maintain their visions and the skeptics maintain their limiting, grounding view that is so important. Until then I will be in turmoil, and lifes plodding ways will continue to weigh on my soul. Is mankind a worthwhile pursuit? We do not actually have the luxury of that question let alone its answer. We will...
